Day 3 - Actun Tunichil Muknal - (B,L,D)

Actun Tunichil Muknal "Cave of the Stone Sepulcher", one of the most impressive caves in the Maya Lowland is right in the heart of the Belize rainforest.

This cave was a sacred place to the prehistoric Maya of Belize, who first began to use the entrance during the early classic period (300-600AD).

It was not until the late terminal classic period (700-900AD) that the Mayas traveled deeper into the Cave to conduct their ceremonies. Our experienced guide will take you on a journey to the Maya Underworld; an experience not to be missed.

An exciting 45 minutes hike through dense Jungle in the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve and wade across three streams, where you will learn about the plants and animals of the Jungle.

At the entrance of the Cave you will be outfitted in the necessary equipment preparing you for the Caving Adventure ahead. Some swimming will be required and also climbing and Caving activity. Degree of Difficulty: Challenging - A good level of physical fitness required. This is a first class Caving and Archaeological experience.
caving trip from Belize Jungle Dome Lodge

The cave system consists of a series of chambers, ending in a 300 by 50 meter Cathedral where sacrificial ceremonies once took place.

Here you will be exposed to the individuals sacrificed to the gods of the underworld. Visitors to this cave have the opportunity to travel into the Maya past and witness a living museum where the human sacrificies and artifacts can be viewed in their original context.

Clothing: Shorts and T-shirts are suggested along with a good pair of tennis or hiking shoes, (no sandals allowed). You will be getting wet so bring along extra clothes.

Day 4 - River Cave Tubing & Zip Line Expedition - (B,L,D)
Combine inner tubing and cave exploration to explore this incredible river cave system where ancient Maya ceremonial centres, pottery, artifacts, altars and the actual footprints of the Shamen and priests dated to 400 A.D. are still seen.

Spectacular crystal formations over 5 million years old cast eerie shadows into the black abyss as you explore and experience the most sacred area of the ancient Maya.

A living museum where the past can still be experienced in its historical and natural location.

Massive cathedral size chambers with walls of river sculptured rock dwarf explorers as we pass on foot and inner tube.

Imagine the experience as we float through a cathedral and we turn off our lights leaving you with the sensation of floating in timelessness.

South Water Caye is an Angler's Paradise. Behind the island spreads a large lagoon full of coral reefs and seagrass beds. Huge schools of bonefish spread out over the lagoon. Tailing these large bonefish schools will provide hours of fly-rod action a few steps out of your room. Bonefish can normally be caught in the shallows from November to March.

In fact, the name for the lodge came from a blue marlin caught right in front of the island by the lodge owners before the lodge was even operational. Besides blue marlin, there are many other oceanic species that can be caught right off the island, including yellowfin and blackfin tuna, mackerel, bonito, wahoo, white marlin and sailfish. Most of these oceanic species can be caught year around at the Blue Marlin Lodge.

Reef fishing is good year around also. Barracuda is a guaranteed catch near the edges of the reef crest along many of the cuts through the barrier reef. Other species frequenting the reefs of the lagoon are grouper, snappers, and many different species of jacks.

Blue Marlin's experienced fishing guides can arrange for various angling adventures. Whether you're deep sea fishing or fly fishing the flats, Blue Marlin is rigged to handle the request.

You can also expect to eat what you catch. The cooks at the Blue Marlin Lodge are use to waiting for the catch of the day to come in before preparing your evening dinner.

escaping to the paradise of BelizeRemember that all the joy and fun associated with the oceans can be found here at Blue Marlin Lodge. Any kind of fishing - spin, fly or trolling - can be enjoyed year around. The abundance and variety of fish guarantees that you will have an excellent time sport fishing.
