HISTORIC HOME |
This Belizean landmark was built in 1927 by talented local craftsmen and still retains its beauty, grace and charm. Now, this magnificent four-story colonial style residence is probably the largest classic wooden home still in existence in Belize. Originally built as a family home, this wonderful structure still provides the warmth and comfort reminiscent of the early colonial times of Belize. Spacious verandahs at the front and back of the house allow you to relax and let go amidst the soothing embrace of the Caribbean breezes. |
HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOOD |
The Great House is located in the renowned Fort George area and is just 100 meters from the Caribbean Sea. Around the corner stands the historic Fort Point Light house at the entrance to the Belize Harbor and adjacent to the Baron Bliss memorial which was erected as a monument to the Englishman, Baron Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss. He lived aboard his yacht "Sea King" which was anchored just off the Fort George Point. Although he never set foot on Belizean soil, due to health reasons, he fell in love with the sea, the fishing, and the charming qualities of its people. On his death, March 9th, 1926, he bequeathed a legacy of over a million dollars to Belize, then British Honduras, in a "Baron Bliss Trust". The 9th of March later became a public and bank holiday in this country. |
