Day 3 - Mysteries of the Underworld - (B,L,D)

An Exciting 6 night / 7 day tour. Explore the Emerald Mystique of the Rainforests of
Belize and Guatemala teeming with Exotic Wildlife and Hidden Mayan Temples & Pyramids. Today you are in for a real treat! An adventurous drive towards the Mountain Pine Ridge area from where your guide will row you deep inside Barton Creek Cave (about 1 to 2 miles depending on water levels). Sit back, relax and direct your 1,000 candle lamp at the amazing formations inside the huge cave believed by the Maya to be the Underworld, "Xibalba", (pronounced SheeBALba) the Kingdom of their Gods. Float under stalagtites, see ancient skeletons and pottery and prepare to be awstruck by cathedral-like caverns. Marvel at the 5 million year old crystalline structures over 50 feet in length as your friendly guide (affectionately known as "Dave the Cave") shares his incredible knowledge with you about the Maya's beliefs about the underworld.

Continue further into the Mountain Pine Ridge area for a packed lunch and visits to the highlights of this region. The area is dotted with beautiful waterfalls, streams and the amazing Rio Frio Cave that you can walk through. The Rio On Cascades and Pools is a cascading river which tumbles over some of the oldest rocks in all of the Americas. The water has eroded numerous pools that are perfect for bathing. Most of the pools are connected by small waterfalls that have a massaging effect if you lie underneath them. The water is clear enough to drink. Deep within the reserve is a 1000 foot falls, a spectacular ribbon of water which drops from pine forest to tropical forest below. An overlook allows you to see the top part of the falls.

Day 4 - River Cave Tubing Expedition - (B,L,D)
Combine inner tubing and cave exploration to explore this incredible river cave system where ancient Maya ceremonial centres, pottery, artifacts, altars and the actual footprints of the Shamen and priests dated to 400 A.D. are still seen.

Spectacular crystal formations over 5 million years old cast eerie shadows into the black abyss as you explore and experience the most sacred area of the ancient Maya.

A living museum where the past can still be experienced in its historical and natural location.

Massive cathedral size chambers with walls of river sculptured rock dwarf explorers as we pass on foot and inner tube.

Imagine the experience as we float through a cathedral and we turn off our lights … leaving you with the sensation of floating in timelessness.

After breakfast you will set off for one of the most amazing days you will ever experience.

After 4 years of planning and two years of dry runs, Its now tried and tested and the results .. SPECTACULAR, INCREDIBLE, A RUSH LIKE NO OTHER !!! The "Mother of all Caves" .. Actun Loch Tunich !

This expedition starts off with a vigorous hike into the foothills of the Maya Mountains. The edge of the Actun Loch Tunich sink hole sits over 300 feet above the basin below, 200 feet above the rainforest canopy that grows out from the sink hole basin.

Fully trained caving guides then rig a system of ropes for your drop to the basin below. The first 10 feet provides the adrenaline, the next 200 feet provides an unforgettable experience and sights to behold, the last 100 feet takes you down through the rainforest canopy.

Belize combines the tropical jungle, the caves and caverns, the underground river caves, the lost Maya ruins, burial sites and ceremonial centers, the indigenous wildlife and the ancient mysticism that surrounds it all.
The sink hole is not actually black, but you cant see the bottom from where you start.

Once you're at the bottom, the question is .. "How do we get you out ????" Then a return hike out of the foothills and a well deserved cold beer at camp. There is the Actun Loch Tunich river cave .. but no cave tubing.

Just perfect. The people were professional, friendly and just all-around fabulous. All tours were just awesome - we shared the incredible experience over and over again with the folks who joined us over a multitude of rum-and-cokes and pina coladas. On the Black Hole Drop we were scared to death and then so proud we were beaming that we made it. All-in-all a fabulous trip. Tracy & Bill McDade, Georgia, USA

Hidden for 1,000 years in the midst of rainforests teeming with wildlife are enormous ceremonial cities with magnificent Temples and Pyramids built by the mysterious Mayan people. Of the park's 222 square miles only 10 square miles of central Tikal has been mapped and over 3,000 separate buildings have been revealed: temples, shrines, ceremonial platforms, residences, ball courts, terraces, causeways and plazas.

THE TEMPLES OF TIKAL in the Peten region of Guatemala is the most fabulous site of all! Overnight stay at the Jungle Lodge Hotel or The Tikal Inn, situated in the heart of the Tikal National Park.

Imagine the ceremonies where human sacrifices were offered to the Gods.
Listen carefully and you will hear the still-beating heart of a dying Civilisation . . .
